My earliest PC gaming memories

Written for the Story of the Week: The first computer game you ever played

One day when I was in middle school, my dad brought home our first computer, a Tandy 1000 SX. This amazing machine had an Intel 8088 processor and dual 5.25" floppy drives! The first two games I remember playing on it were Robot Odyssey and Microsoft Flight Simulator (v2.0). I wasn't very good at either game, but I remember how fascinating they both were. Robot Odyssey was very confusing to me, but it was so cool playing with robots and figuring out circuits. Microsoft Flight Simulator was also fun to play, even with its horrendous frame rate. :)

Other games I remember playing around this time were Zork and King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne (PCjr). I didn't get very far in Zork, but I did finish KQII (although I had some help from my siblings). I remember having to coordinate save files between the three of us since they were done via single letters (I once restored the C save file, and it took me to the tower at the end of the game and I had no idea how to get there in the game). To this day, KQII is the one from the series that I replay the most since it brings me back to those good times as a kid.

Oh my gosh, Robot Odyssey! We had that (and a similar program about circuit design called "Rocky's Boots") for our Color Computer growing up! :D

The Tandy 1000 was such an incredible machine. :)
