Written for the Story of the Week: A game you played with a parent, sibling or grandparent
It wasn't too often that we would get new computer games back in the 90s, usually it was whatever my father found online via sketchy websites or through our local clearance bins at places like Menard's or Shopko. One of the few games I do remember was Battle Beast.
Admittedly, we didn't play this one with each other for very long. The controls were a tad confusing, the game struggled to work on the computer, and we didn't really understand what we were doing. We just saw that we could transform from cute little animals to these larger beasts and thought it was so cool. After a few minutes though that novelty would wear off and we would quickly stop and just go back to other games, forgetting about this game's existence outside of those rare random moments.
In fact one of the games we would often switch to was Creature Crunch. A point and click adventure game that felt like it came right off of Kids WB. This was another one of the bargain bin games that someone, whether it be our grandparents or someone else, would pick up and think we would love. Thankfully, we did. We both would play this game often and try to figure out where to go and how to see more of its strange and colorful world. Ultimately, we never did escape from the mad scientist when we were kids. It wasn't until about 10 years ago that I found the game by happenstance and replayed it, beating it within an hour.
